Chromia Governance is Coming in Q4: What You Need to Know

As part of our continued efforts to decentralize network operations and strengthen community participation, Chromia is developing the first version of its native governance dapp, Chromia Governance. Scheduled for release in Q4 2025, this module will give CHR mainnet stakers the ability to propose and vote on key decisions, including the nomination of new providers and the allocation of grant funding.

This development represents a meaningful step forward in our long-term plan to move away from EVM-based staking systems and transition to a more robust, Chromia-centric staking and governance framework. You can read more about this shift in our recent article:

Staking Update: EVM Reward Phase Out and Upcoming New Features

How Chromia Governance Works

The governance module is designed to allow token holders who stake CHR on the mainnet to take a more active role in shaping the direction of the network. Initially, the module will support two main types of proposals: provider nominations and grant proposals.

The provider nomination process will allow community members to put forward candidates to become providers - the entities that provide the infrastructure of the Chromia network. Nominations can be submitted through the interface and will be open to voting by stakers. For the time being, the Chromia team will continue to screen and manually onboard providers who have been nominated and supported. In the long run, our goal is to make this a fully decentralized and permissionless process.

The second feature available at launch will be the ability to propose and vote on grant funding. This will give stakers the opportunity to support initiatives and projects they believe will positively impact the Chromia ecosystem. Whether it's tooling, applications, educational content, or other forms of ecosystem development, community-driven funding will open up new possibilities for growth.

Voting and Delegation

Voting power within the governance system will be directly tied to the amount of native CHR a user has staked on our mainnet. This means that those with a greater stake in the network will have proportionally more influence over the outcomes of governance decisions.

For users who prefer a more passive role or who may not be able to participate in every vote, the system will also support delegation. This feature allows stakers to assign their voting power to a provider they trust to vote on their behalf. Delegation provides flexibility and helps ensure that governance remains active and representative, even when individual participation varies over time.

A Practical Step Toward Decentralization

Chromia Governance adds a new layer of utility to the CHR token by connecting staking to real influence over network decisions. Instead of staking being solely about earning rewards, it will now also be a means of contributing to the direction and development of the platform.

The launch of this module marks a practical and measured step forward. It is not a complete decentralization of governance all at once, but it establishes a foundation for community participation. Over time, we intend to add support for additional types of proposals and expand the module’s core functions.

What’s Next

Chromia Governance is expected to go live in Q4 2025. We’re looking forward to this rollout and to seeing the Chromia community help guide the network’s future. Stay tuned for updates as we approach launch!
