September 30th, 2024
Welcome to the ninth monthly update of 2024. Let’s take a look at the technical progress, key announcements, and news from around the world of Chromia from the last month!
Chromia Mainnet is Now
When mainnet launched in July, the initial phase was called ‘MVP Mainnet'.
The purpose of this phase was to ensure network stability, provide time for the completion of key features (i.e. native staking, integrated withdrawals), and provide time for our ecosystem partners to prepare for mainnet deployment.
These things have all come to pass, and the MVP Phase is over. To be 100% clear:
Chromia Mainnet is live, right now!
TOKEN2049 Singapore
Chromia co-founder Henrik Hjelte took to the stage at TOKEN2049 Singapore on September 18th and delivered a presentation titled “The Future of Chromia”.
The presentation focused on Chromia's future development and ecosystem expansion plans, and included two major announcements. You can view the entire presentation here.
Chromia Data and AI Ecosystem Fund
The first announcement was the launch of Chromia's new $20 million Data and AI Ecosystem Fund, led by our Head of Business Development, Yeou Jie (YJ).
This initiative aims to form strategic partnerships and invest in data-intensive projects with AI-driven functionality. The fund is designed to support a wide range of projects, including those building directly on Chromia, as well as projects from other blockchains and Web2 companies looking to decentralize their data and/or use Chromia as a utility layer.
The first partners being onboarded under this fund will be announced soon!
Asgard Upgrade and Chromia Extensions
The second announcement was the upcoming Asgard Mainnet Upgrade and the introduction of a new initiative called 'Chromia Extensions.'
The MVP phase is over and Chromia mainnet is here. However, there is no time to rest, as we are targeting a Q4 release for Asgard, which will be our first significant mainnet upgrade.
Asgard's key highlight is the introduction of Chromia Extensions, an initiative that will unfold throughout 2024 and 2025. Extensions are specialized, customizable containers designed for specific functions. They can be used by dapps built on Chromia or by external clients using Chromia as a utility layer.
New Roadmap
In conjunction with these announcements, Chromia’s updated roadmap has been published on our official website. This roadmap lists some of our key deliverables during the next 15 months of development.
While the roadmap offers clear direction, it’s designed to be flexible, with evolving priorities and timelines as new opportunities emerge. The focus is no longer just about completing a checklist—it's about expanding in multiple directions as the platform continues to grow.
Expect regular roadmap updates and adjustments to reflect the dynamic nature of the ‘post-mainnet’ environment.
Recent Roadmap Updates:
- Vault CHR Withdrawals separated from the Bridge Enhancement objective.
- Vault CHR Withdrawals marked as complete.
- Native Staking v1 marked as complete.
Native Staking is Live!
