Mimir Upgrade is Scheduled for March 25th!

Chromia is gearing up for the Mimir Upgrade, scheduled to roll out on March 25th. This upgrade will deliver important developments, further positioning Chromia as an innovator at the crossroads of decentralized infrastructure for artificial intelligence.

Vector Database Extension

Language-based AI applications like ChatGPT have surged in popularity, but many people are unaware of the role vector databases play in their advancement. AI applications use these databases to store and retrieve vector embeddings - numerical representations of data that enable functions like similarity search, long-term memory, and contextual text retrieval.

Traditionally, hosting a vector database requires using a cloud server. However, the Web3 AI space is growing rapidly, and these projects place a strong emphasis on decentralization and transparency.

The Mimir Upgrade will introduce the ability to store vectorized data using Chromia’s underlying relational architecture. We are one of very few projects addressing the need for decentralized vector data. Not only that, but Chromia’s relational architecture enables these embeddings to be stored directly on the blockchain without relying on secondary layers.

These capabilities can be utilized by native Chromia dapps, as well as AI projects building on other blockchains who want to decentralize their backend infrastructure.

We are already seeing interest from both new and existing partners. We are optimistic about the opportunities this development will unlock. Ultimately, as more projects use Chromia to manage their data, it will strengthen the network and increase utility for CHR.

AI Inference Extension

Inference is the process of running AI models to generate predictions or responses based on input data.

As a practical example, think of ChatGPT. The model has already been coded and trained—when you send a prompt, you are providing input. The brief "thinking" or loading time is the inference step, during which the model processes your input. The output is the response you receive.

The AI Inference Extension will enable open-source AI models like DeepSeek, smolLM, and Llama to run on Chromia network provider nodes instead of centralized cloud services like AWS, reducing reliance on traditional cloud infrastructure. Input can be provided through a blockchain transaction, processed by one or more nodes, and returned in another blockchain transaction.

Our initial deployment will consist of one or two models on a dedicated cluster of nodes, with gradual expansion based on performance and demand. This feature will pave the way for a fully decentralized processing chain—an essential step toward unlocking the full potential of on-chain AI.

New Possibilities for Chromia, AI and Web3

With the release of Neural Interface, the launch of EVAL, and collaborations with Marlin Protocol and other partners, we are already making strides in the blockchain AI space.

With Mimir, we are expanding our suite of tools and infrastructure, delivering real utility for both protocols and builders. As decentralized AI continues to gain momentum, this upgrade strengthens Chromia’s position as a leader in the space. Looking beyond Q1, we see growing opportunities to attract attention, drive value, and form new partnerships. Stay tuned!

About Chromia

Chromia is a Layer-1 relational blockchain platform that uses a modular framework to empower users and developers with dedicated dapp chains, customizable fee structures, and enhanced digital assets. By fundamentally changing how information is structured on the blockchain, Chromia provides natively queryable data indexed in real-time, challenging the status quo to deliver innovations that will streamline the end-user experience and facilitate new Web3 business models.
