We are kicking off 2025 with a clear focus: harnessing the synergy between blockchain and artificial intelligence. In Q1, Chromia will prioritize the development of blockchain-enabled AI capabilities and agents, emphasizing its commitment to decentralizing these systems while enhancing transparency and accountability.
Pioneering Blockchain AI with the Vector Database Extension
Our Q1 roadmap, particularly the introduction of the Vector Database Extension, positions Chromia as a frontrunner in the integration of blockchain and artificial intelligence.
Vector databases enable computer programs to make comparisons, identify relationships, and interpret context - key functionalities for creating advanced AI systems, such as large language models (LLMs). In the Web2 space, the adoption of vector databases has grown exponentially, fueling a rapidly expanding market.
This Extension will enable vector embeddings to be stored on our underlying relational architecture, making Chromia one of the world’s only Layer-1 blockchains with native vector database support. These capabilities will support developers creating AI-enabled features and applications directly on Chromia, while also becoming available to AI agents and protocols operating on other blockchains.
A Natural Progression from 2024
Our Q1 focus is a natural progression from the groundwork laid in 2024. In Q4, we welcomed Johnson Lai as Chromia’s Head of Data and AI. His work in leveraging Chromia’s capabilities to support AI applications, and particularly AI agents, has been both innovative and impactful.
Another key development from last year was the launch of the $20 million Data and AI Ecosystem Fund, which has already facilitated partnerships with projects including Elfa.ai, Chasm Network, LoveAI, and Crossmint. Building on this momentum, Chromia is actively pursuing collaborations with high-profile projects and emerging blockchain ecosystems. These efforts underscore Chromia’s growing role as an enabler of decentralized AI systems and its commitment to advancing innovation in this space.
Expanded Roadmap for Q1
To accommodate our AI-focused objectives, we are making adjustments to our roadmap, moving the release of the Data Availability Extension to Q2 2025. This aligns the DA Extension with the Zero Knowledge Extension, creating a more cohesive timeline for roll-up focused objectives.
In its place, several new development goals will be added in Q1:
Postchain Python Client 🆕: Python is the leading language in machine learning. This release facilitates integration between Python applications and Rell, broadening Chromia’s potential in blockchain-powered AI.
Neural Interface v2.0 🆕: Neural Interface allows the Chromia blockchain to function as a memory bank and historical record for AI agents. Version 2.0 will expand upon and refine the existing codebase.
AI Inference Extension: The AI Inference Extension introduces custom containers that allow providers to apply AI models using their node’s computational power.
Vector Database Extension 🆕: Vector databases are used extensively by LLMs and other AI applications, as they enable efficient comparisons, relationship identification, and contextual understanding.
Mimir Mainnet Upgrade 🆕: Chromia’s second mainnet upgrade, scheduled for late Q1. This upgrade will enhance support for blockchain-enabled AI applications and expands the capabilities of Chromia Extensions.
Expansion Across Additional Verticals
While Chromia is prioritizing blockchain-enabled AI in Q1, growth in key areas such as gaming, collectibles, DeFi, and RWAs will continue. This includes the development of decentralized trading, new assets, and innovative DeFi products. These initiatives will advance alongside the above mentioned developments, ensuring continued expansion across the ecosystem.
What’s Next?
We are anticipating the first two objectives to be delivered are the Postchain Python Client and the updated version of Neural Interface. This will be followed by the testing and release of the AI Inference and Vector Database Extensions. Finally, the quarter will cap off with the rollout of the Mimir Upgrade, making for an action-packed start to the year.
Throughout this time, we will be forming and announcing more strategic partnerships with AI-adjacent projects. This Q1 focus is not just a short-term initiative, but the foundation of a key vertical that will continue to contribute to the growth of the Chromia ecosystem. Stay tuned to our official channels for the latest updates!
