Staking Update: EVM Reward Phase Out and Upcoming New Features
As part of our ongoing growth and maturation of Chromia Network, we’re announcing an important staking update:
Beginning on December 2nd 2025, we will begin the gradual phaseout of staking rewards on Ethereum and Binance Chain. This will coincide with the introduction of new features in Q4 that will enhance the experience for Native CHR stakers on mainnet.
Staking Today: A Quick Overview
Currently, users can stake CHR on three blockchains:
- Ethereum (ERC-20 CHR)
- Binance Chain (BEP-20 CHR)
- Chromia (Native CHR)
Staking on EVM chains is managed via the Chromia EVM Staking Portal, while Native CHR staking is integrated directly into Chromia Vault.
The current staking reward breakdown is as follows:
- 3% Base APR; plus
- A portion of the rewards and fees earned by the provider the staker is delegated to. (Referred to as “reward share” for the rest of the article).
Key Change: EVM Staking Reward Phase Out
Starting December 2, 2025, we will begin phasing out staking rewards on Ethereum and Binance Chain. The timeline is as follows:
- December 2, 2025 – APR reduced to 2% + reward share
- February 3, 2026 – APR reduced to 1% + reward share
- April 1, 2026 – APR reduced to 0% and discontinuation of reward share
As of April 1 2026, stakers on Ethereum and Binance Chain will no longer earn any form of rewards and the EVM staking portal will eventually be deprecated.
Native CHR stakers will continue to receive 3% APR plus the reward share, along with the ability to participate in governance activities once Chromia Governance is released (more on this below).
Reasons for the Changes
The current distribution of staked CHR is approximately 41% on Mainnet, 37% on Ethereum, and 22% on Binance Chain. By discontinuing EVM-based rewards, we’re encouraging the community to migrate to mainnet. This is a positive step for the following reasons:
- Increasing Total Value Locked (TVL) on the network
- Enabling greater community participation in governance
- Advancing Chromia as a self contained ecosystem
How to Migrate
The following steps will assist users in migrating from EVM staking to mainnet staking:
- Request to unstake your ERC-20 or BEP-20 CHR at https://staking.chromia.com/staking/. Please note that there is a 14 day waiting period between making the request and your ability to withdraw.
- After the waiting period ends, withdraw your CHR from the EVM staking contract.
- Bridge your CHR from Ethereum or Binance Chain to Chromia mainnet using the Vault Deposit Page. There is a more detailed guide available here.
- Stake your Native CHR using the Vault Staking Page.
What’s Next for Chromia Staking?
As we consolidate staking on mainnet, we’re also working on new features that will provide additional value and participation opportunities for stakers:
🪙Dynamic Fee Sharing (ETA Q4 2025)
Providers will soon be able to set custom fee-sharing rates, giving them more control and flexibility. This affects the portion of rewards that are earned on top of the 3% base APR.
🏛️Chromia Governance (ETA Q4 2025)
We are developing the first version of Chromia Governance, which will allow native CHR stakers to nominate new providers, propose grants, and submit feedback. This initiative aims to increase community participation and give stakeholders a direct role in shaping the future of the Chromia Network.
Final Thoughts
We recognize that this shift represents a change for many longtime EVM stakers. However, it's a critical step in the evolution of Chromia that will increase network TVL, promote governance, and make our ecosystem stronger. Thank you for supporting Chromia as we enter this exciting new chapter!
We’ll continue to provide regular reminders and updates across our official channels between now and April 1, 2026. As always, if you have questions or need assistance with the migration process, please don’t hesitate to reach out through our official channels.
