The Mimir Upgrade is Live!

The Mimir Upgrade is Live!

Today marks an important milestone for Chromia with the successful rollout of the Mimir Mainnet Upgrade. The upgrade brings powerful new features, with the spotlight firmly on one standout addition.

Vector Database Extension: The Star of the Show

For us, this is a game-changer and the standout feature of the Mimir Upgrade. We are confident that Chromia is one of, if not the only, Layer-1 blockchain offering native on-chain storage of vector data today. This is huge, and here’s why:

Vector databases play a key role in AI applications, supporting tasks like similarity search, memory storage, and contextual text retrieval. These databases are already integral to both Web2 and Web3 AI applications, and Chromia has made it simpler for developers to integrate this functionality into their projects.

Developers can now use native, on-chain storage without needing Web2 dependencies or navigating overcomplicated setups. The storage integrates seamlessly into existing applications, offering a straightforward, transparent, and secure way to manage vector data.

The Benefits of Chromia Vector Database

Improved Transparency: With everything stored on-chain, there’s full visibility into how data is managed and accessed, which is essential for building trust in AI systems.

No Downtime: One of the main advantages of decentralization is the absence of single points of failure. With no downtime, AI models can keep running smoothly.

Cost Certainty: By offering a fixed-price model for vector storage, clients get the predictability they need without worrying about spikes in costs.

We’re actively collaborating with new and established partners who plan to use the vector database extension for various purposes. Expect more updates as these leads develop.

The code is located here, and will be made publicly accessible shortly.

What Else is New in Mimir?

The code for the first version of our AI Inference Extension has also been made public on Chromia Testnet. This allows open-source AI models to run on Chromia’s provider nodes. While developers can now implement this feature, it is in its initial stage. We plan to continue building it out to offer more robust options in the future.

The Postchain Python Client is already available, making it easier for developers to integrate machine learning models written in Python, the most common programming language for AI.

There have been recent updates to Neural Interface in collaboration with Marlin Protocol. These updates include Mac support, streamlined deployment, enhanced security, and improved documentation, including a demo video.

What’s Next?

Looking ahead, we’re focused on delivering high-utility products that will not only benefit native Chromia dapps but also the broader market. We aim to keep growing our partner network, boost network utilization, and drive greater demand and utility across the platform.

Next week, we’ll update our roadmap to reprioritize development and introduce a new objective that we believe will contribute to ecosystem growth. Additionally, we are looking forward to some key Q2 deliveries from external DeFi projects that will increase network activity and TVL.

We’re committed to continuously evolving, improving, and innovating as we move forward. As always, we invite you to join us on this journey!

About Chromia

Chromia is a Layer-1 relational blockchain platform that uses a modular framework to empower users and developers with dedicated dapp chains, customizable fee structures, and enhanced digital assets. By fundamentally changing how information is structured on the blockchain, Chromia provides natively queryable data indexed in real-time, challenging the status quo to deliver innovations that will streamline the end-user experience and facilitate new Web3 business models.
