Today, one of our co-founders, Henrik Hjelte, took to the stage at TOKEN2049 Singapore and delivered a presentation, aptly titled “The Future of Chromia”.
The talk began with an overview and history of the project, discussing the basics of relational blockchain and our platform’s modular design and economic model, giving attendees the necessary background info.
After this, there was a clear shift in focus towards the future, with the central question:
Ok, Chromia Mainnet is here. Now what?
The answer to this question was “it’s time to build an ecosystem.” What followed was a series of announcements and teasers that previewed the developments to come in the world of Chromia. Here’s a breakdown of the highlights!
Chromia Data and AI Ecosystem Fund
The first major announcement was the launch of Chromia's $20 million Data and AI Ecosystem Fund, led by our Head of Business Development, Yeou Jie (YJ). This initiative aims to form strategic partnerships and invest in data-intensive projects with AI-driven functionality. The fund is designed to support a wide range of projects, including those building directly on Chromia, as well as projects from other blockchains and Web2 companies looking to decentralize their data and/or use Chromia as a utility layer.
The fund is agnostic in terms of industry focus, extending its reach to established Web3 sectors such as DeFi, NFTs, and gaming. The primary goal is to attract a diverse set of partners who will build native dapps on Chromia or integrate its technology into their existing products. By doing so, the fund aims to position Chromia as a foundational layer for both blockchain-native and traditional projects seeking to decentralize and innovate through AI and data-driven solutions.
Asgard Mainnet Upgrade and Chromia Extensions
The second major announcement was the upcoming Asgard Mainnet Upgrade and the introduction of a new initiative called 'Chromia Extensions.'
With the 'MVP' Mainnet phase concluding, Chromia is transitioning to full mainnet functionality, onboarding more dapps while delivering new features. However, there is no time to rest, as we are targeting a Q4 release for Asgard, which will be our first significant mainnet upgrade.
Asgard's key highlight is the introduction of Chromia Extensions, an initiative that will unfold throughout 2024 and 2025. Extensions are specialized, customizable containers designed for specific functions. They can be used by dapps built on Chromia or by external clients using Chromia as a utility layer. The first Extensions planned include an Oracle solution, a computation extension for AI Inference, and support for data availability and zero-knowledge proofs.
As the initiative evolves, there will likely be increased synergy between the Data and AI Ecosystem Fund and the features added through these Extensions. The long-term vision is to build out a marketplace where developers can choose from a wide range of Extensions tailored to meet specific project needs, allowing Chromia to cater to an even broader array of use cases.
New Roadmap Unveiled
In conjunction with these announcements, Chromia’s updated roadmap has been published on our official website. This roadmap represents the foundation for our next phase of development.
While the roadmap offers clear direction, it’s designed to be flexible, with evolving priorities and timelines as new opportunities emerge. The focus is no longer just about completing a checklist—it's about expanding in multiple directions as the platform continues to grow. Expect intermittent updates to reflect the dynamic nature of the ‘post-mainnet’ environment.
Blockchain Gaming on Chromia is Going Strong
While Chromia is evolving in many directions, dapps and blockchain games remain a core focus. Mines of Dalarnia recently deployed their latest version of Modbots on Chromia’s mainnet, and we have significant announcements on the way from other gaming partners. Over the past few years, we’ve actively built, incubated, and cross-promoted various gaming projects, and this vertical will play an important role in the growth of Chromia’s ecosystem.
Wrapping Up
The central takeaway from all of this is that we are not content with simply having built Chromia; we are committed to continuously developing and expanding the network. Our goal is to achieve organic growth by offering real utility to projects across both Web3 and Web2.
We believe that the combination of relational architecture, modular design, and our unique approach to blockchain economics has laid the foundation for a versatile and capable platform. These new initiatives, along with the release of our updated roadmap, mark the next step in our journey. Let’s Build Brilliant.
About Chromia
Chromia is a Layer-1 relational blockchain platform that uses a modular framework to empower users and developers with dedicated dapp chains, customizable fee structures, and enhanced digital assets. By fundamentally changing how information is structured on the blockchain, Chromia provides natively queryable data indexed in real-time, challenging the status quo to deliver innovations that will streamline the end-user experience and facilitate new Web3 business models.
