I’m pleased to announce an important milestone in development of Chromia: All components which are necessary for Chromia mainnet are now feature-complete. This means that we can transition into the final phase before the mainnet launch: full-system testing and audit. This phase is also known as a “Code Freeze” as we put focus on intense testing rather than on feature development.
So what happens now? The process can be broken down into three stages.
- Over the next few weeks, we are making some final frontend and UI preparations for public testing. Put simply, all of the backend functions are ready and we are completing the ‘user-friendly’ interfaces that interact with the backend. (And by the “backend” here we mean node software and blockchains, of course.
During this time, we will also expand internal testing, putting more focus on performance and adversarial corner cases. We have also hired a Top 10 auditing firm, Trail of Bits, to audit main components. - When the frontend and UI work is done, we will launch the newest version of Chromia on our Public Testnet (this is the ‘Mainnet Release Candidate’). Shortly after, we will begin incentivized testing to encourage interaction with the network aimed at triggering edge cases. The feedback collected from this phase, as well as the findings of the audit, will inform the final development tasks needed for mainnet.
- After assessing the results of incentivized testing and the audit process, our departments (C-level, development, marketing, business development, etc.) will coordinate to set and announce an official mainnet launch date.
Currently, we estimate that a two-month period would be sufficient for testing and audit. If issues found during the testing do not require large code updates, mainnet launch will follow shortly after. But, of course, it’s impossible to predict the results of testing ahead of time.
In 2024 we achieved new heights of development velocity, with all teams coordinating and resolving issues practically and efficiently. I am excited for the work done behind the scenes to be put into action.
